When choosing the right online dating site, one of the considerations for you may be what features are offered. Members who join websites that offer free and paid memberships will need to assess what features are available to each, as overwhelmingly on those sites features for free members are severely limited to the point that setting up a profile may be a waste of time if the membership fee is not going to be paid. 

Some sites offer matching services while others allow you to run your own searches. Some combine a form of the two. Some sites offer anonymous phone contact with paid membership, and others offer it for an additional fee. Some do not offer it at all. 

There are sites that allow audio files of your voice, and other sites that allow short video clips to be added to profiles. Most have some form of instant messaging (I.M.) feature. With those IMs, some will automatically pop up when someone wants to chat with you, and others will allow you to accept or decline the invitation. Some sites even allow webcam chatting which allows you to see the person as you converse, in real time. 

Some sites will allow unlimited or large quantity photo submissions, while others have serious limits on the number of photos you can post with your profile. 

Some sites have forums sometimes called message boards, and some sites have activities for members to attend. Many sites have chat rooms. Some of those chat rooms have webcam or audio capabilities. 

Some sites offer some type of background check with membership or will verify that you are who you say you are for an additional fee. This can be a very attractive feature to those who have concerns about internet fraud. Be advised that not every verification or background check service is the same. Find out the specifics of what is included and not included in the verifications before placing too much trust in the site. 

Whatever your feature preferences are, there is sure to be a site out there that offers them. Just remember that some sites charge extra for features that other sites offer free; and some features are set up in such a way that they are more of a hassle than they are worth.
