While some online dating websites offer some type of identity verification or basic background check service, most do not. Members of online dating websites who decide to date and get involved with other members then have to decide at what point they want to run a background check, and if they want to run a background check at all.

For some, running a background check is standard procedure before ever going on a first date. For others, background checks come later in the process or only if there appear to be inconsistencies. For still others, it is taboo.

Regardless of where you first meet, some people are liars and some people are not. The internet may provide some assistance to those who are dishonest in being deceitful, but even without any internet involvement, people are still being hurt and swindled in the name of ‘love’.
