While I have always been a very organized person, I have also always been a practical person. To me, there is a great deal of common sense in the notion of quality outweighing quantity. Along those lines, when it comes to getting acquainted with someone new, I have put the quality of our interactions ahead of the quantity of our interactions.

With some men, the communication has been in-depth and easy. With others, it has been stilted or shallow. Some men I have gotten better acquainted with in a few conversations than I have other men over the course of much communication. It has simply been a matter of the quality and content of our conversations.

When I run across dating/relationship advice that dictates relationships by calendars, I cringe. With some people, six months is like a lifetime – they are open and honest, and they show you exactly who they are without holding back. With other people, several years will not show you who they are – because they are always hiding parts of themselves.

There is no set-in-stone calendar answer as to how long you should email first before exchanging telephone numbers, or how long you should talk on the phone before you meet in person. The only real answer is that it depends on how well you are getting acquainted and how comfortable you both feel.

Best bet: keep internet and dating safety tips in mind, and throw out the calendar. Let the quality of your interactions be your guide.

Tomorrow I will post part two of this blog.

Today’s Question: What do YOU consider to be quality communication?
